The Kitchen is the Heart of your Home!

23 Aug The Kitchen is the Heart of your Home!

After reading an article '20 Ways to add Value to your Home' published by Phil Spencer the presenter of Location, Location, Location and Relocation, Relocation we were pleased to see that he is on the same page as Kitchen Ergonomics and concentrate on your kitchen if you want to add value to your home, Phils advice is:

Concentrate on the Kitchen

“If you are only going to improve one room, make it the kitchen. This has now become the showpiece area of the home. We don't just cook in it, we do homework in it, we watch television in it and hold dinner parties there. The number one priority is creating a handsome and efficient work surface and ensuring easy access between the three points of the kitchen triangle, that is, the sink, fridge and cooker (high street kitchen firms have got surprisingly good at drawing up designs). Install equipment that is as up to date as possible, so it won't look outmoded in 10 years. And make sure the price bracket of your kitchen matches the price bracket of your house. There is no point putting a £25,000 kitchen in a £250,000 house; you won't see your money back. Equally, put a £10,000 kitchen in a £1 million house, and you will drag down the value. Typically, a new kitchen will add 4.6 per cent onto value.”

Kitchen Ergonomics believe the kitchen is not just a kitchen anymore it has now become the Heart of the Home. You entertain your family and friends there, you make arts and crafts with the children on a lazy Sunday afternoon and for many it has become a place to relax and read a book or watch television in. Gone are the days when the cook was stuck out in the kitchen while listening to everyone in the other room having fun the fun is now happening in the most central point of the house the kitchen!

Below is an example of one of our Case Studies; our client extended the rear of their property which allowed our designer to create the multi-functional space they so desired. As you can see from the image below the room now has many places for the family to gather, whether it is relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine on the sofa or having an informal dinner at the breakfast bar it now means the whole family can congregate together and all be involved in the food making, baking or socialising.
